COBANC Files Against CSEA

President's Message
May 18, 2021

Last week COBANC filed a PERB action against the NYS Unified Court System for unit clarification and placement. We are challenging that, titles in CSEA judicial in Nassau County should be COBANC ‘s. In our contract, our recognition clause states that we are the “Exclusive representative for collective negotiations with respect for salaries, wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for all full-time and part-time employees within Nassau County” Despite this clear language, many of the titles are represented by CSEA AFSCME Local 1000 (CSEA) Nassau County. We believe these court titles should be in our unit as CSEA’s recognition clause does not include representation in Nassau County but does state “All employees in Judicial Districts Three through Eight”. Nassau County sits in the Tenth Judicial District.

In addition to this, we are also seeking to accrete the employees in the cities of Glen Cove and Long Beach which are contained in CSEA’s recognition clause. After exhaustive research with our attorney Dave Davis, we believe that the court employees in Nassau County should all be in COBANC.

In Unity,
Peter A. Piciulo
President
